One Camera | One Lens

The Photographer

The Photographer | Fujicolor Superia X-TRA 400

I’m Francisco Del Valle, a Mechanical Engineer born on February 6th of 1984 in a small town of the State of Veracruz in Mexico.

Around 2007 I started with photography using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS 75 Digital Point & Shoot Camera that I receive as a gift. After months of taking photos with that little but very capable camera I remembered that my mother bought in the 90′s a Nikon camera, so I went to look for it.

At first I did not know how to use it, meaning that I didn’t know anything about Aperture, Exposure, ISO Speed, Focal Length, etc. I remember that I was tremendously disappointed because the lens that the camera had wasn’t a zoom-lens, instead I was stuck with only one bloody focal length. A 50mm f/1.8 AF Nikkor lens was the lens I hated so much because it wasn’t as versatile as a zoom lens…. SILLY ME!

After learning a bit about the technical details of photography and learning how to use my camera I started to really enjoy the experience of taking a photograph.

Because of my economical situation (I was a student then), I needed to be really selective about the shots I was going to make in order to make every frame as cheap as they could be (more keepers per roll of film) and that forced me to be very careful with the framing and exposure, making me what I like to think I become: A Better Photographer.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Do I prefer film over digital?

Yes, for me film looks better than digital. Film has texture, digital does not.

…………………..

Do I want a DSLR?

Yes, sometimes I’m tempted by the Demon, but then I think of all the film I could buy with all that money.

…………………

Do I want another lens?

Yes, maybe a 35mmm f/2.0 Nikkor AF Lens or a 50mm f/1.2  Al-S Nikkor Lens.
